BIOTECH

BIOTECH was a programme financed jointly by MERCOSUR and the EU between the years 2005-2011, whereby the creation of the regional biotechnologies platform called BIOTECSUR was promoted. This platform brings together the public and private sectors (academic, corporate and Government actors) linked to biotechnology in the MERCOSUR countries, and aims to achieve the development and better use of existing R&D; capabilities, to strengthen the competitiveness of the productive sectors of the region, and provide sustainable solutions to regional and global problems. Within the achievements of integration reached by the platform stand out joint projects that were based on topics of regional interest.

BIOTECH II

This program emerges from the successful experience of the BIOTECH programme, in order to continue with the strengthening of the Biotechnologies Platform BIOTECSUR and to consolidate and position biotechnologies of MERCOSUR at international level. The new agreement between Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay and the European Union proposes to consolidate the created foundations of integration and to position biotechnology as a key area of progress for productive development, understanding that this contributes to the generation of knowledge, the creation of employment and economic growth.
